Diamantis Panagiotopoulos

Diamantis Panagiotopoulos is Professor of Classical Archaeology and Acting Director of the Institute of Classical and Byzantine Archaeology, University of Heidelberg. He has studied Archaeology, History and Art History at the University of Athens. He holds a PhD from the University of Heidelberg and a Habilitation from the University of Salzburg. His work over the past decades has been primarily focused on research and teaching, with substantial efforts dedicated to the fields of archaeological theory, imagery, material culture, landscape archaeology, exhibitions, and cultural heritage. Parallel to his publication activities, he has been actively engaged as a principal investigator in several third-party funded research projects. His research agenda and methodologies have been shaped by fruitful and ongoing synergies with social anthropologists, architects, geographers, and computer scientists. Since 2012, he is the director of the on-going, interdisciplinary field project “Minoan Koumasa. Reconstruction of an Archaeological Landscape”.
