Joaquín Sabaté Bel

Architect and Economics graduate (UB), Doctor of Architecture, and Professor Emeritus of Urban Planning at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (ETSAB UPC), where he has taught since 1976. He directed the Department of Urban Planning from 1992 and has lectured and taught at over fifty universities across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. His research focuses on cultural landscapes, urban and territorial planning, and the integration of heritage in local development, resulting in over a hundred academic contributions, including books, articles, and seminars. He has supervised numerous doctoral theses and founded the International Laboratory of Cultural Landscapes. He is also editor of ID Identities: Territory, Culture, Heritage. As an urban planner, he has worked extensively in Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Italy, and Chile. His work has earned multiple distinctions, including three Spanish National Urban Planning Awards, the 2007 Catalonia Urban Planning Award, and the 2011 Catalonia Special Heritage Award.
